In this 1900 Census Record, Grill is four years old at the time in Washington to a father from Austria and a mother from Germany. As it is stated his family lived in Tacoma Ward 5, Pierce, Washington.
In this 1910 Census Record from Washington, Grill was 14 years old at the time and lived in Monitor Chelan, Washington. He attended school, and was able to read and write.
At the age of 21, Grill registered for the Great War. It is mentioned that in his registration card that he was tall, had brown hair and eyes and was single. Grill's residence at the time was also stated which was Imperial, California.
At the time of his death he was a Corporal and was recognized by The Wenatchee Daily World in 1918. There is also a individual report by the Legion Memorial Shrine.
