George Norman Buchanan
58th Infantry Regiment 4th Division
1895 - 1918
George N. Buchanan was an only child born on the 28th of September, 1895 in Snohomish, Washington to James and Margaret Buchanan.
Buchanan was christian and most likely attended the YMCA (Young Men's Christian Association) near his hometown. The YMCA supported the youth education and the US army/navy military services.
He enjoyed acting and attended several plays including a play named “One Day” at the park theatre.
During the war many people would obviously detest the enemy, which was Germany at the time. This resulted in the encouragement of people to join the army or navy.
In 1917, Buchanan enlisted into the army and served in the 58th Infantry Regiment 4th Division. Though on his way to France his ship, RMS Moldavia, which was originally not used for the transportation of troops, got sunk by a German U-Boat. Below there is a photograph of him from the photo album, Soldiers of the Great War, Volume 3.
