II. DO YOU ALREADY have information about a WWI Service member Buried in Suresnes?
If you have information about a WWI service member (their story, where they’re from, where they served and died in the war, etc.) and an image associated with that individual, follow the steps below and we’ll add that information to the Monuments Project app.
- Find out where that individual is buried in the cemetery, using this ABMC burial list.
- Write a description of that person’s story in approximately 150 words using the App Pin Template and Model in the briefcase as a guide.
- Find a source image that represents that individual – ideally a photograph of them.
- Send us a spreadsheet of this information using this template.
III. Would you like to share Expertise on relevant context?
We have heard from a number of very generous and supportive researchers and writers on contextual history relevant to the experience of service members our students are researching. We've not only received offers for documents and suggestions for books but also offers to work with our students. If you can do the same please send us an email at [email protected].
IV. No prior Expertise or School affiliation but you Want to tell the stories of Service members from your state?
1. Search the ABMC burials database. Select for Suresnes and filter other choices based on your interest.
2. Use the briefcase to start digital research on your selection(s).
3. Use ArchiveGrid or do a quick google search for the location of residence listed for your service member and key phrases for finding relevant local institutions that might hold records on that location. For instance. If your service member is from Centralia, WA you might try googling "Centralia Historical Society" or "Centralia History Museum" or "Centralia Archives" or "Centralia Special Collections" etc. You might also adjust for size of location, searching for Lewis County instead of Centralia for instance. You might also try state archives or local universities and public libraries. View their sites, if they have one and reach out, in person or by phone and email. In this fashion you can narrow the possibilities rather quickly and soon enough find yourself working through the physical documents and digging for untold stories.
